YOUNG ARTS

Arts education is important in strengthening young people’s resilience, self confidence and critical thinking. It boosts self esteem, encourages discipline and develops the creative skills they will need for the future.

To this end our Arts Society seeks to support art based initiatives for young people in our local area.

Our projects are funded by the proceeds from our Christmas raffle and an Arts Society annual Community Grant.

2025

This year we are sponsoring year 5 pupils at Great Totham Primary School to participate in a national visual art competition organised by Art Bytes. We worked  in school to help the pupils create their entries and prizes were awarded to the three entries chosen to go forward to the national competition.

 2024

We took Print making into Baynards Primary School in Tiptree with local artist Eleanor Mulinder spending a day in school working with Year 5 and 6 children. After looking at the work of Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso and discussing the difference between abstract art and observational drawing the children were able to create their own designs which were printed onto cards and tote bags.

In December we donated £200 to our local Trussell Food Bank for the provision of Art Packs for children of vulnerable families in our area.

We also sponsored 10 underprivileged children to participate in a two day event at the Firstsite Gallery in Colchester, during which they worked on art related projects and were provided with nutritious meals.

 2023

We sponsored an “Artist in Residence “ day in Baynards Primary School in Tiptree.

D’Arcy Turner inspired the pupils to create a Zig wire sculpture of a knight on horseback ( the school logo) , encouraging them to contribute their ideas to the design and work as teams to complete each part of the life size sculpture. The children worked with enthusiasm and the impressive result takes pride of place in the school grounds.

We also took a team of Society members into Baynards School and for several weeks worked with Year 5 and 6 pupils to design and appliqué sew a wall hanging about Tiptree which now has pride of place in the school hall.
